SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: J3 - Dialog Messages for Data Pool Entry Transactions

  • Message number: 636

  • Message text: Inconsistency in data flow mode. Transfer terminated

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The transfer was terminated due to incosistencies in the mode of the
    data flow.
The mode was not uniform for the transferred records. You do not
necessarily need to specify a mode for every record. Note that at least
one mode has to be specified in at least one record. This will then
serve as a global mode for all the records. However, if you specify
modes in more than one record, they must all be the same mode.
    &SYSTEM_RESPONSE& (EDT only)
    Transfer terminated.
    &WHAT_TO_DO& (EDT only)
Maintain a mode(s) in accordance with the above description and
    retransfer the data.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message J3636 - Inconsistency in data flow mode. Transfer terminated ?

The SAP error message J3636, which indicates "Inconsistency in data flow mode. Transfer terminated," typically arises in the context of data transfer processes, particularly in SAP systems that involve data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) operations. This error suggests that there is a mismatch or inconsistency in the data flow configuration, which prevents the successful transfer of data.

    Causes:

    1. Configuration Issues: There may be inconsistencies in the configuration settings for the data flow, such as incorrect settings in the data source, data target, or transformation rules.
    2. Data Model Changes: Changes in the underlying data model (e.g., changes in fields, data types, or structures) that are not reflected in the data flow configuration can lead to this error.
    3. Incompatible Data Types: Mismatches in data types between the source and target systems can cause inconsistencies.
    4. Missing or Incorrect Mapping: If the mapping between source and target fields is incomplete or incorrect, it can lead to data flow inconsistencies.
    5. Transport Issues: If the data flow configuration was transported from one system to another (e.g., from development to production) and there were issues during the transport, this could lead to inconsistencies.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings for the data flow. Ensure that all settings are correct and consistent across the source and target systems.
    2. Validate Data Model: Ensure that the data model has not changed in a way that affects the data flow. If changes have been made, update the data flow configuration accordingly.
    3. Review Data Types: Check the data types of the fields in both the source and target systems to ensure they are compatible.
    4. Verify Mapping: Ensure that all fields are correctly mapped between the source and target. If any fields are missing or incorrectly mapped, correct them.
    5. Check Transport Logs: If the issue arose after a transport, check the transport logs for any errors or warnings that may indicate what went wrong during the transport process.
    6. Recreate Data Flow: In some cases, it may be necessary to recreate the data flow from scratch to ensure that all settings are correct.
