The SAP error message IW180, which states "Order already in process: Task list cannot be included," typically occurs when you attempt to include a task list in a maintenance order that is already in a status that does not allow for modifications, such as "In Process" or "Released." This error is common in the context of maintenance management within SAP PM (Plant Maintenance).
Cause:
- Order Status: The maintenance order is in a status that does not permit changes. For example, if the order is already released or in process, you cannot add or modify the task list.
- Task List Locking: The task list you are trying to include may be locked due to another process or user accessing it.
- System Configuration: Certain configurations in the system may restrict modifications to orders based on their status.
Solution:
Check Order Status: Verify the status of the maintenance order. If it is in a status that does not allow changes, you may need to change the status to allow for modifications. This could involve:
- Changing the order status to "Created" or "Released" if applicable.
- If the order is already in process, you may need to complete or close the order before making changes.
Unlock Task List: If the task list is locked, check if another user is currently using it. You may need to wait until they are finished or contact them to release the lock.
Use a Different Order: If the current order cannot be modified, consider creating a new maintenance order where you can include the task list.
Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP administrator for specific configurations that may affect order processing and task list inclusion.
Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like IW32 (Change Order) to check the order status and make necessary changes.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
