  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message ISSR_TP822 - Identifier change for asset & (area &) is not possible ?

The SAP error message "ISSR_TP822 Identifier change for asset & (area &) is not possible" typically occurs in the context of asset accounting when there is an attempt to change the identifier (such as the asset number) for an asset that is not allowed due to certain conditions or restrictions.

    Causes:

    1. Asset Status: The asset may be in a status that does not allow changes. For example, if the asset is already fully depreciated or has been retired, changes to its identifier may not be permitted.
    2. Transaction Type: The transaction type being used may not support identifier changes. Certain transaction types are restricted from making changes to asset identifiers.
    3. Depreciation Areas: The error may also arise if the asset is linked to multiple depreciation areas, and the change is not allowed for one or more of those areas.
    4. Configuration Settings: There may be configuration settings in the asset accounting module that restrict changes to asset identifiers under certain conditions.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Asset Status: Verify the status of the asset. If it is retired or fully depreciated, you may need to create a new asset instead of changing the identifier.
    2. Review Transaction Type: Ensure that the transaction type you are using allows for identifier changes. If not, consider using a different transaction type or method.
    3. Depreciation Area Review: Check the depreciation areas associated with the asset. If changes are restricted for certain areas, you may need to address those restrictions.
    4. Consult Configuration: Review the configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module to see if there are any restrictions on changing asset identifiers. You may need to consult with your SAP administrator or a functional consultant to adjust these settings if necessary.
    5. Use Alternative Methods: If changing the identifier is not possible, consider alternative methods such as creating a new asset and transferring the values from the old asset to the new one.
