Message text: Measurement reading transfer usually only within object hierarchies
You have assigned the current <DS:GLOS.measuring_point>measuring point
</> &V1& to another measuring point, from which
<DS:GLOS.measurement_reading>measurement readings</> or
<DS:GLOS.counter_reading>counter readings</> should be received.
When checking the assigned measuring point &V2&, the system determined
that the corresponding measuring point object does not belong to the
same hierarchy of measuring point objects as the measuring point object
of the current measuring point, or that it does exist in the same
hierarchy, but not in the line directly above or below.
The assignment is generally not advisable.
Note also that, up to now, this check is only possible if the current
measuring point belongs to a <GL:functional_location>functional
location</> or to a piece of <GL:equipment>equipment</> and that
provisionally, the check can only be performed for the currently valid
transfer dependencies ("Valid-to" date = &V3&).
Check your entries and the object hierarchy where necessary.

IR159
- Measurement reading transfer usually only within object hierarchies ?The SAP error message IR159, which states "Measurement reading transfer usually only within object hierarchies," typically occurs in the context of transferring measurement readings (like meter readings) between different objects in SAP, particularly in the Utilities Industry or Asset Management modules. This error indicates that the system is trying to transfer measurement readings between objects that are not part of the same hierarchy, which is not allowed.
Cause:
Object Hierarchy Violation: The primary cause of this error is that the measurement reading is being transferred between two objects that do not share a direct hierarchical relationship. For example, if you are trying to transfer a reading from a meter that belongs to one functional location to another that belongs to a different functional location or equipment, the system will throw this error.
Incorrect Configuration: There may be issues with the configuration of the object hierarchies in the system, leading to improper relationships between the objects.
Data Entry Errors: Sometimes, the error can arise from incorrect data entry, where the wrong object IDs are being used for the transfer.
Solution:
Check Object Hierarchies: Verify the hierarchy of the objects involved in the transfer. Ensure that both objects belong to the same hierarchy. You can do this by checking the functional locations or equipment master data in SAP.
Correct Object IDs: Ensure that the correct object IDs are being used for the measurement reading transfer. Double-check the entries to confirm that they are accurate.
Review Configuration: If the hierarchy is not set up correctly, you may need to review and adjust the configuration of the object hierarchies in the system. This may involve working with your SAP Basis or configuration team to ensure that the relationships are correctly defined.
Use Appropriate Transactions: Make sure you are using the correct transaction codes for transferring measurement readings. For example, use transactions like IK11 (Create Measurement Document) or IK12 (Change Measurement Document) appropriately.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on handling measurement readings and object hierarchies.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a consultant who specializes in SAP Utilities or Asset Management.
