  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message HRTB01028 - Compensation requested is higher than available balance ?

The SAP error message HRTB01028, which states "Compensation requested is higher than available balance," typically occurs in the context of SAP's Human Capital Management (HCM) module, particularly when dealing with compensation management or payroll processing. This error indicates that the compensation amount being requested (for example, a bonus, salary increase, or other financial compensation) exceeds the available balance that is allocated for that employee or position.

    Causes:

    1. Insufficient Budget: The most common cause is that the budget allocated for compensation for that employee or department has been exhausted or is insufficient to cover the requested amount.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: There may be configuration issues in the compensation management settings, such as incorrect limits set for compensation types.
    3. Data Entry Errors: The amount entered for compensation may have been incorrectly inputted, leading to a request that exceeds the available balance.
    4. Changes in Employee Status: If an employee's status has changed (e.g., a promotion or demotion), the available balance may not have been updated accordingly.
    5. Time Constraints: If the compensation is tied to a specific period, the available balance may be limited to that timeframe, and the request may exceed it.

    Solutions:

    1. Review Budget Allocations: Check the budget allocations for the employee or department to ensure that there are sufficient funds available for the requested compensation.
    2. Adjust Compensation Request: If the request is indeed higher than the available balance, consider adjusting the compensation amount to fit within the available limits.
    3. Correct Configuration: Review the configuration settings in the SAP system to ensure that compensation limits and budgets are set correctly.
    4. Verify Employee Data: Ensure that the employee's data is up to date, including their current position, salary, and any recent changes that may affect their compensation.
    5. Consult with HR or Finance: If the issue persists, consult with the HR or finance department to understand the budget constraints and to explore possible adjustments or exceptions.
