The SAP error message HRPBS00_MD035, which states "The change of fields for the action &1 is not allowed," typically occurs in the context of personnel actions in the Human Resources (HR) module. This error indicates that there are restrictions on modifying certain fields during a specific personnel action.
Cause:
- Field Restrictions: Certain fields in the infotype (like infotype 0000 for actions) are locked for changes based on the action type. For example, if you are trying to change fields that are not allowed for a specific action (like hiring, termination, etc.), this error will be triggered.
- Action Configuration: The configuration of the personnel action may not allow changes to specific fields. This is often defined in the customizing settings of the HR module.
- Data Consistency: SAP enforces data consistency rules, and if changing a field would violate these rules, the system will prevent the change.
Solution:
- Check Action Configuration: Review the configuration of the personnel action in the SAP system. You can do this by navigating to the relevant customizing settings (usually found in SPRO under Personnel Management > Personnel Administration > Customizing Procedures > Actions).
- Review Field Settings: Identify which fields are restricted for the specific action you are trying to perform. You may need to consult with your HR configuration team or SAP support to understand the restrictions.
- Use Correct Action: Ensure that you are using the correct personnel action for the changes you want to make. If you need to change fields that are restricted in the current action, consider using a different action that allows those changes.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to personnel actions and infotype changes for more detailed guidance on the specific action you are working with.
- Debugging: If you have access to technical resources, you can debug the action to see which specific field change is causing the error and why it is restricted.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
