Message text: Entry overlaps existing values
In master data maintenance, you can enter the same values for one field,
provided they are valid for different dates.
Example: You entered the following master data for the Account field:
Value Valid from Valid to Text
400000 01/01/year 1 12/31/year 1 Account for year 1
400000 01/01/year 2 12/31/year 2 Account for year 2
The above entry is correct because the same values are valid for
different times.
Value Valid from Valid to Text
400000 01/01/year 1 12/31.07/year 1 Account for year 1
400000 01/01/year 1 12/31/year 2 Account for year 2
The above entry is incorrect because the validity periods overlap.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Check that your entry does not overlap with existing data.

GU706
- Entry overlaps existing values ?The SAP error message GU706 ("Entry overlaps existing values") typically occurs in the context of managing master data, particularly when dealing with time-dependent data such as validity periods for master records (e.g., material master, customer master, etc.). This error indicates that the validity period you are trying to enter overlaps with an existing entry in the system.
Cause:
The error is caused by attempting to create or modify a record with a validity period that conflicts with an existing record. For example, if you are trying to set a validity period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, but there is already an existing record with a validity period from June 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, the system will throw this error because the two periods overlap.
Solution:
To resolve the GU706 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Existing Entries: Review the existing records for the master data you are trying to modify. Look for any overlapping validity periods.
Adjust Validity Period: Modify the validity period of the new entry you are trying to create or change so that it does not overlap with existing entries. Ensure that the start and end dates do not conflict with any existing records.
Delete or Change Existing Records: If the existing records are no longer needed, you may consider deleting or changing them to eliminate the overlap. Be cautious with this approach, as it may affect other processes or data.
Consult Documentation: If you are unsure about the validity periods or how to manage them, refer to the relevant SAP documentation or user guides for your specific module.
Seek Help from SAP Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with SAP support for further assistance.
