  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GR116 - Some changes only effective after regeneration ?

The SAP error message GR116 ("Some changes only effective after regeneration") typically occurs in the context of SAP's material management and production planning modules, particularly when dealing with master data such as bills of materials (BOMs), routing, or other related objects. This message indicates that certain changes made to the master data will not take effect until the relevant objects are regenerated.

    Cause:

The GR116 message is triggered when:

    • Changes are made to a BOM, routing, or other related master data that require a regeneration of dependent objects.
    • The system recognizes that the changes cannot be applied immediately and need a regeneration process to ensure that all dependent objects reflect the new data.

    Solution:

To resolve the GR116 error, you should follow these steps:

    1. Identify Changes: Review the changes you made to the master data. Determine which specific changes are causing the message.

    2. Regenerate Objects:

      • For BOMs: Use transaction code CS02 (Change BOM) or CS03 (Display BOM) to regenerate the BOM. You can also use transaction CS11 to regenerate all dependent objects.
      • For Routings: Use transaction code CA02 (Change Routing) or CA03 (Display Routing) to regenerate the routing.
      • For Production Versions: If applicable, ensure that the production version is updated.
    3. Check Dependencies: Ensure that all dependent objects that rely on the changed master data are also regenerated. This may include production orders, planned orders, or other related documents.

    4. Use Regeneration Transactions: Depending on the specific object, you may need to use specific transactions for regeneration:

      • For BOMs: CS11 (Display BOM for a material) or CS12 (Display BOM for a plant).
      • For Routings: CA11 (Create Routing) or CA12 (Change Routing).
    5. Test Changes: After regeneration, test the changes to ensure that they are now effective and that the error message no longer appears.

    Related Information:

    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on BOMs, routings, and regeneration processes.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for managing BOMs and routings.
    • User Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes and perform regeneration in the system.
    • System Performance: Be aware that regeneration processes can be resource-intensive, so it may be advisable to perform them during off-peak hours.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for any specific patches or updates related to this error message.
