  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G0372 - No data was read ?

The SAP error message G0372 ("No data was read") typically occurs when a report or transaction is executed, but the system does not find any data that meets the specified selection criteria. This can happen in various contexts, such as when running reports, executing queries, or processing data in modules like Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), or Sales and Distribution (SD).

    Causes:

    1. Incorrect Selection Criteria: The most common cause is that the selection criteria entered by the user do not match any records in the database. This could be due to incorrect date ranges, missing parameters, or filters that are too restrictive.

    2. Data Not Yet Available: If the data is expected to be available but has not yet been entered or processed in the system, this error can occur.

    3. Authorization Issues: Sometimes, users may not have the necessary authorizations to view certain data, leading to the appearance of no data being available.

    4. Data Deletion: If data has been deleted or archived, it may no longer be accessible, resulting in this error.

    5. Technical Issues: There could be underlying technical issues, such as database connectivity problems or issues with the report itself.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Selection Criteria: Review the selection criteria you have entered. Ensure that they are correct and that you are not filtering out all the data unintentionally. Adjust the parameters to broaden the search.

    2. Verify Data Availability: Confirm that the data you are trying to access has been entered into the system. You may need to check with relevant departments or users to ensure that the data is available.

    3. Review Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to access the data. If you suspect authorization issues, contact your SAP security team or administrator.

    4. Check for Data Deletion/Archiving: Investigate whether the data has been deleted or archived. If it has been archived, you may need to retrieve it from the archive or check the relevant archive tables.

    5. Consult Technical Support: If the issue persists and you suspect a technical problem, consult your IT support team or SAP Basis team to investigate any underlying issues with the system or database.

    6. Run Alternative Reports: If applicable, try running alternative reports or transactions that may provide similar data to see if the issue is specific to the report you are using.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues related to the specific transaction or report you are using. SAP Notes often provide solutions or workarounds for common problems.

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes that may help you troubleshoot or access data differently (e.g., SE16 for table browsing).

    • Documentation: Review the documentation for the specific report or transaction to understand the expected input and output.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the G0372 error and take appropriate action to resolve it.
