Message type: E = Error
Message class: FRMLMSC - RMS-FRM: Miscellaneous Messages for Formula
Message number: 149
Message text: Substance &1, accuracy loss due to reduced number of decimal places
Accuracy may be lost when the system converts 6 decimal places to 4.
The system performs the conversion
to the next smallest unit within the dimension and family of the
unit of measurement. This reduces the number of decimal places.
If there are still more than 4 decimal places, you can create more units
in this dimension in Customizing and assign them to a unit of
measurement family.
The conversion to these smaller units
means that a loss of accuracy can be avoided - as long as the number of
decimal places does not exceed 6.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

FRMLMSC149
- Substance &1, accuracy loss due to reduced number of decimal places ?The SAP error message FRMLMSC149 indicates that there is an issue with the precision of a substance's measurement due to a reduced number of decimal places. This typically occurs in the context of material management, especially when dealing with substances in formulations or recipes where precise measurements are critical.
Cause:
Decimal Place Settings: The error usually arises when the system is configured to use fewer decimal places than what is required for the substance's measurement. For example, if a substance is defined with a high precision (e.g., 4 decimal places) but the system is set to only display or process 2 decimal places, this can lead to an accuracy loss.
Data Entry: If the user enters a value with more decimal places than the system allows, it can trigger this error.
Configuration Settings: The settings in the material master or the formulation might not align with the required precision for the specific substance.
Solution:
Adjust Decimal Places:
- Go to the material master record for the substance in question and check the settings for decimal places. You may need to increase the number of decimal places allowed for that substance.
- This can typically be done in the material master under the "Basic Data" or "Accounting" views, depending on your SAP version.
Review Formulation Settings:
- If the substance is part of a formulation, check the formulation settings to ensure that the decimal places are set correctly to match the precision required for the substances involved.
Data Entry Practices:
- Ensure that users are trained to enter values that conform to the system's decimal place settings to avoid this error in the future.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific configuration settings related to decimal places and precision for your version of SAP.
Related Information:
By addressing the configuration and ensuring that the data entry practices align with the system's capabilities, you can resolve the FRMLMSC149 error effectively.
