Message text: Log output is impeding system performance
You specified that the program log is to be output directly. This direct
output can be rather time consuming.
&DEPENDENCIES&
Alternatively, you can opt to first save the log data and to output and
analyze it later using the <DS:REPN.FAGL_PROT>Display Log</> program.
This setting can considerably speed up runtime.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
To deactivate the direct output of the log, select the <ZH>&V1&</>
checkbox and deselect the <ZH>&V2&</> checkbox on the selection screen.

FR524
- Log output is impeding system performance ?The SAP error message FR524, which states "Log output is impeding system performance," typically indicates that the system is experiencing performance issues due to excessive log output being generated by a particular process or transaction. This can happen in various scenarios, such as during batch jobs, long-running transactions, or when there is a high volume of log messages being generated.
Causes:
- Excessive Logging: The application or process is generating more log entries than necessary, which can lead to performance degradation.
- Long-Running Transactions: Transactions that take a long time to complete may generate a lot of log data, especially if they are not optimized.
- High Volume of Data: Processes that handle large volumes of data can produce extensive logs, impacting system performance.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration settings for logging levels or log retention policies can lead to excessive log generation.
- System Resource Limitations: Insufficient system resources (CPU, memory, disk I/O) can exacerbate the impact of log generation on performance.
Solutions:
- Review Logging Levels: Check the logging configuration for the affected application or process. If the logging level is set too high (e.g., DEBUG), consider lowering it to INFO or WARNING to reduce log output.
- Optimize Processes: Analyze and optimize the processes or transactions that are generating excessive logs. This may involve code optimization, reducing the amount of data processed, or breaking down large transactions into smaller ones.
- Log Management: Implement log management practices, such as archiving old logs, setting retention policies, and regularly clearing out unnecessary log entries.
- Monitor System Performance: Use SAP performance monitoring tools (like ST03N, ST04, or ST06) to identify bottlenecks and resource usage. This can help pinpoint the source of the performance issues.
- Adjust System Resources: If the system is under-resourced, consider upgrading hardware or optimizing resource allocation to improve overall performance.
- Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes or patches that may address known issues related to logging and performance.
