  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message FINS_UTIL062 - CDS views are currently generated by another process -> Long text ?

The SAP error message FINS_UTIL062 indicates that there is a conflict in the generation of Core Data Services (CDS) views. This typically occurs when multiple processes are trying to generate or modify the same CDS views simultaneously, leading to a lock situation.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Processes: The most common cause is that another user or process is currently generating or modifying the same CDS views. This can happen during system updates, data model changes, or when multiple users are working on the same views.
    2. Long-running Transactions: If a transaction that generates CDS views is taking a long time to complete, it can block other processes from accessing those views.
    3. System Locking Mechanism: SAP uses a locking mechanism to prevent data inconsistencies. If a lock is in place, other processes will be unable to proceed until the lock is released.

    Solution:

    1. Wait and Retry: The simplest solution is to wait for the other process to complete. Once the other process finishes, you can try to generate the CDS views again.
    2. Check Active Processes: Use transaction codes like SM50 or SM66 to monitor active processes in the system. Look for any long-running jobs that might be holding locks on the CDS views.
    3. Release Locks: If you identify a process that is stuck or not responding, you may need to terminate it. Be cautious with this approach, as it can lead to data inconsistencies if not handled properly.
    4. System Restart: In some cases, a system restart may be necessary to clear any lingering locks, but this should be done as a last resort and typically requires coordination with your SAP Basis team.
    5. Check for Updates: Ensure that your SAP system is up to date with the latest patches and updates, as some issues may be resolved in newer versions.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes like SE11 (Data Dictionary), SE80 (Object Navigator), and SE37 (Function Builder) for managing and viewing CDS views.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues related to CDS view generation. You can search for specific notes that might address the error message or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on CDS views and their generation process to understand better how they work and what might cause conflicts.

If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis team or reach out to SAP support for further assistance.
