Message type: E = Error
Message class: FB - Batch Programs
Message number: 129
Message text: Sample search too complex
A current sample search requires too much calculation.
The sample search is terminated.
The calculation effort depends on the search string and the text being
searched:
Search strings with repetition characters ("+" or "*") and "or"
characters ("|") require higher amounts of calculation and should not
be used if there are performance problems. This also applies to a
greater extent to nested constructions (for example, "(.|#+)+").
The calculation required also increases in relation to the length of
the input text (at least linear, under certain circumstances, also
exponential).
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Sample search too complex ?The SAP error message FB129, which states "Sample search too complex," typically occurs when a user attempts to execute a search or query in the SAP system that is too complex for the system to process efficiently. This can happen in various contexts, such as when using transaction codes related to financial documents, customer/vendor master data, or other areas where search functionalities are employed.

- Large Data Volume: The underlying database may contain a large volume of data, and the search criteria may not be optimized for performance.
- Inefficient Indexing: The database tables involved in the search may not be properly indexed, leading to performance issues.
- System Limitations: There may be inherent limitations in the SAP system regarding the complexity of queries that can be processed.
Solutions:
- Simplify Search Criteria: Review and simplify the search criteria. Try to reduce the number of fields or conditions used in the search.
- Use Wildcards: If applicable, use wildcards (e.g.,
*
) to broaden the search and reduce complexity.- Break Down the Query: If possible, break down the complex query into smaller, simpler queries that can be executed sequentially.
- Optimize Data Selection: Limit the selection to a smaller dataset by applying filters that narrow down the results.
- Check Indexing: Work with your database administrator to ensure that the relevant tables are properly indexed to improve search performance.
