  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message EM083 - Field &1 is already in maximum transfer structure &2 ?

The SAP error message EM083, which states "Field &1 is already in maximum transfer structure &2," typically occurs in the context of data transfer processes, particularly when working with data structures in SAP systems. This error indicates that a specific field (denoted by &1) is already included in the maximum transfer structure (denoted by &2), and therefore cannot be added again.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Field Definition: The field you are trying to add to a transfer structure is already defined in that structure. SAP has a limit on how many times a field can be included in a transfer structure.
    2. Configuration Error: There may be a misconfiguration in the data transfer settings or the structure definitions.
    3. Data Model Changes: Changes in the data model or structure definitions may lead to conflicts where a field is inadvertently included multiple times.

    Solution:

    1. Check Transfer Structure: Review the transfer structure (structure &2) to see if the field (field &1) is already included. You can do this by navigating to the relevant data transfer structure in the SAP system.
    2. Remove Duplicate Field: If the field is indeed already present, you should remove the duplicate entry or adjust your configuration to avoid adding it again.
    3. Adjust Configuration: If you are working with custom configurations or enhancements, ensure that your settings do not lead to the inclusion of the same field multiple times.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific module you are working with for any known issues or additional guidance.
    5. Testing: After making changes, test the data transfer process again to ensure that the error is resolved.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any specific notes related to this error message, as they may provide additional context or solutions.
    • Data Transfer Processes: Familiarize yourself with the data transfer processes relevant to your SAP module (e.g., SAP BW, SAP SD, etc.) to understand how transfer structures are defined and used.
    • Field Definitions: Review the definitions of the fields involved to ensure they are correctly configured and used in the appropriate contexts.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP expert or reach out to SAP support for further assistance.
