Message class: DPR_SHARED - Development Projects: Messages for Shared Objects
Message number: 240
Message text: &1 &2: Calculated start conflicts with start constraint
You have defined a start constraint on a superior project element. The
calculated earliest or latest start date of the project element &V1&
&V2& violates this constraint.
Example:
The start constraint <ZK>Must start on</> is defined with the start
constraint 4.28. However, the calculated start date of the task is 4.26.
&V1& &V2& does not have any lower-level project elements, for example,
task without subtasks:
The system transfers the start date of the constraint from the superior
project element as the corresponding start date for the project element
&V1& &V2&.
&V1& &V2& does have lower-level project elements, for example, task with
subtasks:
The system does <ZH>not</> transfer the start date of the constraint
from the superior project element as the corresponding start date for
the project element &V1& &V2& because this is defined by the lower-level
project elements in bottom-up scheduling.
In <LS>bottom-up scheduling</>, the dates of the superior project
elements are generally specified by the dates of their lower-level
project elements.
Therefore, check the constraint on the superior project element. A
constraint on one of the lower-level project elements can have the same
effect.

DPR_SHARED240
- &1 &2: Calculated start conflicts with start constraint ?The SAP error message DPR_SHARED240 indicates that there is a conflict between the calculated start date of a project or task and the start constraint that has been defined for it. This typically occurs in the context of project management within SAP, particularly when using the Project System (PS) or Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) modules.
Cause:
- Start Constraint: The project or task has a defined start constraint (e.g., "Must Start On," "Start No Earlier Than," etc.) that is not being met by the calculated start date.
- Dependencies: There may be dependencies or relationships with other tasks that affect the start date.
- Resource Availability: Resource constraints or availability issues may lead to a calculated start date that conflicts with the defined constraints.
- Scheduling Settings: The scheduling settings or parameters may not align with the constraints set for the project or task.
Solution:
- Review Constraints: Check the start constraints defined for the project or task. Ensure that they are set correctly and that they align with the intended project timeline.
- Adjust Dates: If the calculated start date is incorrect, you may need to adjust the project or task dates manually to resolve the conflict.
- Check Dependencies: Review any predecessor or successor relationships that may be influencing the start date. Adjust these relationships if necessary.
- Resource Allocation: Ensure that the resources required for the task are available. If not, consider reallocating resources or adjusting the project schedule.
- Recalculate Schedule: After making adjustments, recalculate the project schedule to see if the conflict is resolved.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on managing constraints and scheduling in your version of SAP.
