How To Fix DMEE688 - Check subtree of node &1; it contains child tree nodes

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: DMEE - Messages for Data Medium Exchange Engine

  • Message number: 688

  • Message text: Check subtree of node &1; it contains child tree nodes

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You have deactivated a node in the parent tree and that node has a
    subtree.

    System Response

Due to the deactivation of the node, the system also deactivated the
subtree. Your child node (a node created in the child tree) is part of
the subtree, so it is also deactivated.

    How to fix this error?

If you want the child node to be activated, activate the deactivated
parent node. If you want to have only the child node activated, you can
move the child node to another place and deactivate the parent note
again (we recommend that you use the <LS>Revert to Original </>button
    for this purpose).

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message DMEE688 - Check subtree of node &1; it contains child tree nodes ?

The SAP error message DMEE688 indicates that there is an issue with the Data Medium Exchange Engine (DMEE) configuration, specifically related to the structure of the DMEE tree. The error message states: "Check subtree of node &1; it contains child tree nodes." This typically means that a node in the DMEE tree is expected to be a leaf node (i.e., it should not have any child nodes), but it currently has child nodes.

    Cause:

    1. Incorrect Tree Structure: The DMEE tree structure is not set up correctly. A node that is supposed to be a leaf node (a node that does not have any children) has child nodes associated with it.
    2. Misconfiguration: There may be a misconfiguration in the DMEE settings where a node is incorrectly defined to have children when it should not.
    3. Data Mapping Issues: The mapping of data elements to the DMEE tree may not align with the expected structure, leading to unexpected child nodes.

    Solution:

    1. Review the DMEE Tree Structure:

      • Open the DMEE transaction (usually transaction code DMEE).
      • Navigate to the specific node indicated in the error message (replace &1 with the actual node name).
      • Check the properties of the node to ensure it is configured correctly as a leaf node.
    2. Remove Child Nodes:

      • If the node is indeed supposed to be a leaf node, remove any child nodes that are incorrectly assigned to it.
      • Ensure that the hierarchy of the DMEE tree is maintained correctly.
    3. Validate Configuration:

      • After making changes, validate the entire DMEE configuration to ensure that all nodes are correctly defined and that there are no other structural issues.
    4. Test the Configuration:

      • Once adjustments are made, test the DMEE output generation to ensure that the error does not reoccur.
    5. Documentation and Support:

      • Refer to SAP documentation for DMEE for further guidance on tree structure and node configuration.
      • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP support or consulting with a technical expert familiar with DMEE configurations.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: DMEE (Data Medium Exchange Engine), SE11 (Data Dictionary), SE80 (Object Navigator).
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address known issues or provide additional guidance on DMEE configurations.
    • Best Practices: Follow best practices for DMEE tree design, ensuring that the hierarchy is logical and that nodes are appropriately categorized as leaf or parent nodes.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the DMEE688 error and ensure that your DMEE configuration is functioning correctly.
