  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CY867 - No field was assigned to this index ?

The SAP error message CY867: No field was assigned to this index typically occurs in the context of SAP's data modeling and indexing processes, particularly when working with InfoObjects in the BW (Business Warehouse) environment. This error indicates that an index has been defined, but no fields have been assigned to it, which makes it impossible for the system to utilize the index effectively.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Field Assignments: The most common cause of this error is that the index has been created without any fields being assigned to it. This can happen if the index was created manually or if there was an issue during the configuration process.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: There may be a misconfiguration in the InfoObject or the data model that leads to the index not being properly linked to the relevant fields.
    3. Transport Issues: If the index was transported from another system, it might not have the necessary field assignments due to inconsistencies in the transport process.

    Solution:

    1. Check Index Configuration:

      • Go to the relevant InfoObject in the SAP BW system.
      • Check the index settings and ensure that the necessary fields are assigned to the index.
      • If fields are missing, add the required fields to the index.
    2. Recreate the Index:

      • If the index is not functioning correctly, consider deleting the existing index and recreating it with the correct field assignments.
    3. Review Transport Requests:

      • If the issue arose after a transport, review the transport request to ensure that all necessary objects and configurations were included.
      • If needed, re-transport the objects or manually adjust the configurations in the target system.
    4. Check for Updates:

      • Ensure that your SAP system is up to date with the latest patches and updates, as some issues may be resolved in newer versions.
