- External number assignment is not possible for group & ?The SAP error message CV708, which states "External number assignment is not possible for group &," typically occurs when there is an attempt to assign an external number range to a number group that is not configured to allow external number assignment. This can happen in various contexts, such as when dealing with document numbers, material numbers, or other number ranges in SAP.
Cause:
- Configuration Issue: The number range group is set up to use internal number assignment instead of external. This means that the system generates numbers automatically rather than allowing users to input their own numbers.
- Incorrect Number Range Assignment: The number range group being used may not be configured correctly in the system.
- Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to perform actions related to external number assignment.
Solution:
Check Number Range Configuration:
- Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
- Find the relevant number range object associated with the group in question.
- Check the configuration of the number range group to see if it is set to allow external number assignment. If it is not, you may need to change it to allow external assignment if that is the desired behavior.
Adjust Number Range Settings:
- If you need to allow external number assignment, you may need to create a new number range group that allows for external assignment or modify the existing one.
- Ensure that the number range is defined correctly in the relevant configuration settings (e.g., in the customizing settings for the specific module you are working with).
User Authorizations:
- Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to perform actions related to external number assignment. This may involve checking roles and authorizations in transaction PFCG.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP Basis or functional team for specific guidance on configuring number ranges for your particular scenario.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after checking the configuration and authorizations, it may be beneficial to involve your SAP support team or consult with SAP directly for further assistance.
