Message number: 193
Message text: Q stock exists for WIP batch &1 (Make usage decision)
When a WIP batch is created for an order, as standard, the system books
out all further WIP batches for this order. However, if there is stock
in quality inspection (Q stock) for a WIP batch, this cannot be booked
out from within the confirmation transaction. The system therefore
attempts to withdraw the stock of this WIP batch from blocked stock. If
there is insufficient stock, the goods movement fails and has to be
postprocessed with the transaction COGI as soon as enough stock is
available.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
If you are working with WIP batches and Q stocks, you are advised to
carry out the usage decision process in QM and make a transfer posting
transferring the relevant quantity from Q stock to blocked stock. The
usage decision process should be carried out before a further WIP batch
is created for the corresponding order.
If the usage decision has not yet been made in QM before a new WIP batch
is created, the goods movement initially fails due to too little stock.
When the usage decision has been made and the corresponding quantity
transferred from Q stock to blocked stock, this failed goods movement
can be postprocessed using the transaction COGI.
In the postprocessing, the quantity of the goods movement should not be
changed, as otherwise stocks that cannot be eliminated via the
confirmation transaction are created in the system.

COWIPB193
- Q stock exists for WIP batch &1 (Make usage decision) ?The SAP error message COWIPB193 indicates that there is stock in the Quality Inspection (Q) stock for a Work in Progress (WIP) batch. This typically occurs when you are trying to perform a process that requires the WIP batch to be in a different stock status, but there are still items in the Q stock that need to be addressed.
Cause:
- Quality Inspection Stock: The error arises because there are materials in the Quality Inspection stock that are associated with the WIP batch. This means that the materials have not yet been released from quality inspection.
- Pending Usage Decision: The system requires a usage decision to be made for the materials in Q stock before you can proceed with further processing of the WIP batch.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you need to perform the following steps:
Check Quality Inspection Stock:
- Use transaction code MMQ1 (or QA32 for collective usage decision) to check the stock in Quality Inspection for the specific batch.
- Identify the materials that are still in Q stock.
Make Usage Decision:
- If the materials are ready for use, you need to make a usage decision. This can be done using transaction code QA11 (for individual usage decision) or QA32 (for collective usage decision).
- Select the relevant inspection lot and make the appropriate decision (e.g., Accept, Reject, or Rework).
Post Goods Movement:
- After making the usage decision, you may need to post a goods movement to transfer the stock from Q stock to unrestricted stock if the decision was to accept the materials.
Recheck WIP Batch:
- Once the usage decision has been made and the stock has been updated, you can re-attempt the process that was previously blocked by the error.
