Message type: E = Error
Message class: COTU - Messages for Partial Conversion Planned Order -> Prod. Order
Message number: 017
Message text: Target quantity <= calculated scrap quantity (please increase target qty)
The calculated scrap quantity (&V1& &V2&) is not smaller than the
target quantity. Therefore, the system could not determine a yield to
be produced. A production order with a quantity of zero, however, is
not allowed.
The system has determined the proportional scrap quantity for the
partial quantity by using the relationship between the scrap quantity
and order quantity of the planned order. If necessary, this
proportional scrap quantity has been converted to the order unit of
measure. In the case of an indivisable unit of measure, it has also
been rounded up and reconverted to the unit of measure in the partial
quantity line.
The system rejects the selected target quantity.
Increase the partial quantity.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

COTU017
- Target quantity <= calculated scrap quantity (please increase target qty) ?The SAP error message COTU017 indicates that the target quantity specified in a production order or a related process is less than or equal to the calculated scrap quantity. This typically occurs in the context of production planning and execution, where the system calculates the expected scrap based on the production process, and the target quantity set for production does not meet the minimum requirement to account for this scrap.
Cause:
- Scrap Calculation: The system has calculated a certain amount of scrap based on the production process, which is often defined in the material master or production order settings.
- Target Quantity: The target quantity set for the production order is too low, meaning that after accounting for the expected scrap, there would be insufficient output.
- Production Order Settings: The settings in the production order or the material master may not be aligned with the actual production capabilities or expected yields.
Solution:
- Increase Target Quantity: The most straightforward solution is to increase the target quantity in the production order to a value greater than the calculated scrap quantity. This ensures that the net output after accounting for scrap meets the production requirements.
- Review Scrap Rates: Check the scrap rates defined in the material master or production order. If the scrap rate is too high, consider adjusting it based on historical data or production capabilities.
- Adjust Production Process: If feasible, review the production process to identify ways to reduce scrap. This could involve process improvements, better training for operators, or changes in materials used.
- Consult with Production Planning: Engage with the production planning team to ensure that the target quantities are set appropriately based on realistic production yields and scrap rates.
Related Information:
By addressing the target quantity and reviewing the associated parameters, you should be able to resolve the COTU017 error and proceed with the production order.
