    been exceeded.
The quantity unit in the split operation is different to the production
unit of measure of the material. The split quantity is selected so that
the conversion into the order unit will lead to the maximum number of
decimal places being exceeded for this unit of measure.

    System Response

You can change the number of decimal places for the UoM of the order

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message COOS045 - Split leads to an order quantity with too many decimal places ?

The SAP error message COOS045, which states "Split leads to an order quantity with too many decimal places," typically occurs in the context of production orders or process orders when the system attempts to split an order quantity into components or operations, resulting in a quantity that exceeds the allowed number of decimal places defined in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Decimal Places Configuration: The number of decimal places allowed for the order quantity is defined in the material master or in the configuration settings. If the split calculation results in a quantity that has more decimal places than allowed, this error will occur.
    2. Order Splitting Logic: The logic used to split the order may not be correctly configured, leading to an unexpected quantity that exceeds the defined limits.
    3. Unit of Measure (UoM): The unit of measure for the material may have a different decimal place setting than what is configured for the order, causing discrepancies during the split.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Settings:

      • Go to the material master (transaction code MM03) and check the settings for the material in question. Look specifically at the "Basic Data" and "Purchasing" views to see the decimal places defined for the unit of measure.
    2. Adjust Decimal Places:

      • If necessary, adjust the decimal places allowed for the material in the material master. This can be done by changing the UoM settings to allow for more decimal places, if appropriate.
    3. Review Order Splitting Configuration:

      • Check the configuration for order splitting in the system. This may involve reviewing the settings in the production order type or the process order type to ensure that the splitting logic is correctly defined.
    4. Change the Order Quantity:

      • If the order quantity can be adjusted, consider changing it to a value that does not lead to excessive decimal places when split.
    5. Consult with SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists after checking the above settings, it may be beneficial to consult with SAP support or your internal SAP team for further analysis and potential adjustments in the system configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • MM03 (Display Material Master)
      • CO02 (Change Production Order)
      • CO01 (Create Production Order)
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation related to production order management and material master settings for more detailed guidance on configuring decimal places and order splitting.

    • User Exits and BAdIs: If custom logic is involved in the order splitting process, check for any user exits or BAdIs that may be affecting the behavior of the order splitting.

By addressing the configuration of decimal places and reviewing the order splitting logic, you should be able to resolve the COOS045 error.
