  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message COOS005 - Operation &1 of sequence &2 has already been dispatched ?

The SAP error message COOS005 indicates that an operation in a production order or a process order has already been dispatched, meaning that it has been scheduled for execution and cannot be dispatched again. This error typically occurs in the context of production planning and control, particularly when dealing with operations in a routing or sequence.

    Cause:

    1. Operation Already Dispatched: The most common cause of this error is that the operation you are trying to dispatch has already been marked as dispatched in the system.
    2. Incorrect Sequence Handling: If there are multiple sequences or operations, trying to dispatch an operation that is not in the correct order or has already been processed can trigger this error.
    3. User Error: Sometimes, users may attempt to dispatch the same operation multiple times due to misunderstanding the system's status or workflow.

    Solution:

    1. Check Operation Status: Verify the status of the operation in the production order. You can do this by navigating to the production order and checking the operation details to see if it has already been dispatched.
    2. Review Dispatching Process: Ensure that you are following the correct dispatching process. If the operation is already dispatched, you may need to proceed to the next operation in the sequence.
    3. Use the Correct Transaction: Make sure you are using the appropriate transaction code for dispatching operations. For example, use CO02 (Change Production Order) to check the status of operations.
    4. Reset Dispatch Status: If you need to re-dispatch an operation for some reason (e.g., it was dispatched incorrectly), you may need to reset the dispatch status. This typically requires administrative privileges and should be done with caution.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for specific instructions related to your version of SAP, as the steps may vary slightly.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CO01 (Create Production Order), CO02 (Change Production Order), and CO03 (Display Production Order).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP Notes can provide additional context or solutions.
    • User Roles and Permissions: Ensure that users have the appropriate roles and permissions to dispatch operations. Sometimes, restrictions can lead to confusion about the status of operations.
    • Training and Documentation: Providing training for users on how to manage production orders and operations can help reduce the occurrence of this error.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a technical consultant for further assistance.
