How To Fix CNV_NCE_BAS204 - Temporary interval &1: target numbers fall into NR interval &2

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: CNV_NCE_BAS - Number conversion engine: messages

  • Message number: 204

  • Message text: Temporary interval &1: target numbers fall into NR interval &2

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The target numbers of the temporary number interval &V1& will lie in the
number range interval &V2& after the conversion.

    System Response

The number range interval &V1& contains numbers that do not belong to
any number range intervals that are defined in table NRIV. This interval
is also not mapped to any defined number range interval (the target
number range number is empty). However, its target numbers lie in the
defined number range interval &V2& due to a specified mapping values.

    How to fix this error?

Check the numbers that belong to a temporary number interval (you can do
it by selecting the interval and choosing the pushbutton <ZK>Interval
Details</>). Change the mapping values if you do not want them to be
    part of any defined interval.
    &ADDITIONAL_HINTS&
The system will take these numbers into account while adjusting the
number levels of the number range intervals after conversion.
    Example:
    Subobject mapping (company codes):
    A001 -> A002
    A002 -> A002 (priority company code)
Number range intervals (table NRIV) before conversion:
    OBJECT,,SUBOBJECT,,NRRANGENR,,TOYEAR,,FROMNUMBER,,TONUMBER,,,,NRLEVEL
    RF_BELEG,,A001,,,,,,01,,,,,,2010,,,,1000000000,,,,1999999999,,,,
    1000050000
    RF_BELEG,,A001,,,,,,02,,,,,,2010,,,,3000000000,,,,3999999999,,,,
    3000098906
    RF_BELEG,,A002,,,,,,01,,,,,,2010,,,,2000000000,,,,2999999999,,,,
    2000070000
There exists a document 2200023255 in the year 2010, company code A001.
This document does not belong to any defined number range intervals. It
lies in a gap between number range intervals A001/01/2010 and
A001/02/2010. The system creates a temporary number interval with limits
that correspond to the gap between the defined number range intervals:
    OBJECT,,SUBOBJECT,,NRRANGENR,,TOYEAR,,FROMNUMBER,,TONUMBER,,,,NRLEVEL
    RF_BELEG,,A001,,,,,,,,,,,,2010,,,,2000000000,,,,2999999999,,,,2200023255
The conversion rule 'Shifting mode' is used for the intervals
A001/01/2010 and A002/01/2010, and the temporary interval above is
excluded from the conversion with a rule 'No change'. In this case, all
numbers from the interval A001/01/2010 (1000000000-1000050000) will be
moved to the interval A002/01/2010 directly after the number 2000070000.
The number level of the interval A002/01/2010 will increase to the
2000120001. However, number 2200023255 will also fall into the interval
A002/01/2010. The system will set number level of the interval
    A002/01/2010 to 2200023255.
Number range intervals (table NRIV) after the conversion:
    OBJECT,,SUBOBJECT,,NRRANGENR,,TOYEAR,,FROMNUMBER,,TONUMBER,,,,NRLEVEL
    RF_BELEG,,A002,,,,,,01,,,,,,2010,,,,2000000000,,,,2999999999,,,,
    2200023255
    RF_BELEG,,A002,,,,,,02,,,,,,2010,,,,3000000000,,,,3999999999,,,,

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CNV_NCE_BAS204 - Temporary interval &1: target numbers fall into NR interval &2 ?

The SAP error message CNV_NCE_BAS204 typically occurs during data migration or conversion processes, particularly when using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit or other data migration tools. This error indicates that there is a mismatch between the target number range and the source number range during the data transfer process.

    Cause:

The error message "Temporary interval &1: target numbers fall into NR interval &2" suggests that the numbers being transferred from the source system fall into a number range that is not valid or not defined in the target system. This can happen due to several reasons:

    1. Number Range Configuration: The target system may not have the appropriate number range defined for the object being migrated.
    2. Data Overlap: The data being migrated may contain values that overlap with existing values in the target system's number range.
    3. Incorrect Mapping: The mapping of number ranges between the source and target systems may not be correctly configured.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Number Range Configuration:

      • Go to the target system and check the configuration of the number ranges for the relevant object (e.g., customer, vendor, material).
      • Ensure that the number ranges are correctly defined and that there is an available range for the incoming data.
    2. Adjust Number Ranges:

      • If necessary, adjust the number ranges in the target system to accommodate the incoming data. This may involve creating new number ranges or extending existing ones.
    3. Review Data Mapping:

      • Review the mapping configuration in the migration tool to ensure that the source and target number ranges are correctly aligned.
      • Make sure that the data being migrated does not conflict with existing data in the target system.
    4. Test Migration:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, perform a test migration with a smaller dataset to verify that the issue has been resolved.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific migration process you are using for additional guidance and best practices.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like SNRO (Number Range Objects) to manage number ranges in the SAP system.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
    • Migration Cockpit: If you are using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, ensure that you are following the recommended procedures for data migration.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the root cause of the error and implement a solution to successfully complete the data migration process.
