Message type: E = Error
Message class: CNV_20100 - Messageclass for chart of account conversion
Message number: 172
Message text: Length of target acct or cost element &3 exceeds significant length of &4
When checking the lengths of the target account and cost element IDs,
the system found that in the mapping entry &V1& -> &V2& the target
account ID &V3& exceeds the significant length of &V4& digits that was
specified for the relevant chart of accounts in the mapping.
As a consequence, not all digits of the account / cost element ID will
be transferred to the respective fields for significant length of the
account/cost element (SKA1-SAKAN, CSKA-KSTSN).
Go to the activity <ZK>Specify Mapping Values (Chart of Accounts)
</> and either shorten the account / cost element ID or increase the
significant length of the account IDs for the relevant chart of accounts
accordingly.

- Length of target acct or cost element &3 exceeds significant length of &4 ?The SAP error message CNV_20100172 indicates that the length of the target account or cost element exceeds the significant length defined in the system. This error typically arises during data migration or conversion processes, particularly when using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit or other data migration tools.
Cause:
- Length Mismatch: The target account or cost element has a length that exceeds the maximum allowed length defined in the system configuration. For example, if the target field is defined to accept a maximum of 20 characters, but the incoming data has 25 characters, this error will occur.
- Data Mapping Issues: During the mapping of source data to target fields, if the source data has longer values than the target field can accommodate, this error will be triggered.
- Configuration Settings: The configuration settings for the target system may not align with the source system, leading to discrepancies in field lengths.
Solution:
- Check Field Lengths: Review the field lengths of the target account or cost element in the target system. Ensure that they are configured to accept the lengths of the incoming data.
- Data Truncation: If the incoming data exceeds the allowed length, consider truncating the data to fit the target field. However, be cautious with this approach as it may lead to loss of important information.
- Data Mapping Adjustments: Adjust the data mapping in the migration tool to ensure that the source data is correctly aligned with the target field lengths.
- Configuration Review: Review the configuration settings in the target system to ensure they are set up correctly to accommodate the incoming data.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific migration process you are using for any additional guidance or best practices.
