  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

Company codes with different controlling areas should be merged.
You want to merge the company codes &V1& and &V3&. However company code
&V1& belongs to controlling area &V2&, while company code &V3& belongs
to controlling area &V4&. The controlling areas &V2& and &V4& are not
    going to be merged.
The planned merge of company codes is not possible unless you merge the
corresponding controlling areas first, because you can only merge
company codes that belong to the same controlling area.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CNV20200370 - Company codes are merged; controlling areas are not merged ?

The SAP error message CNV20200370 indicates that there is an issue related to the merging of company codes and controlling areas during a data migration or system conversion process. This error typically arises when two or more company codes are being merged, but their associated controlling areas are not aligned or merged accordingly.

    Cause:

    1. Mismatched Controlling Areas: The company codes that are being merged are assigned to different controlling areas. In SAP, each company code must be linked to a controlling area, and if they are not compatible, the merge cannot proceed.
    2. Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the configuration or data that prevent the merging of controlling areas.
    3. Configuration Issues: The controlling area settings may not be configured to allow for the merging of the specified company codes.

    Solution:

    1. Check Company Code and Controlling Area Assignments:

      • Verify the assignments of the company codes to their respective controlling areas. You can do this by navigating to the configuration settings in SAP.
      • Use transaction code OBY6 to check the company code settings and see which controlling area they are assigned to.
    2. Merge Controlling Areas:

      • If the company codes are to be merged, you may need to merge the controlling areas as well. This can involve reassigning the company codes to a common controlling area or creating a new controlling area that encompasses the necessary company codes.
    3. Adjust Configuration:

      • Ensure that the controlling area settings are correctly configured to allow for the merging of company codes. This may involve adjusting settings in the controlling area configuration.
    4. Data Migration Tools:

      • If you are using a data migration tool or a specific SAP migration project (like S/4HANA migration), ensure that the tool is correctly set up to handle the merging of both company codes and controlling areas.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific migration or conversion process you are undertaking. There may be specific guidelines or prerequisites that need to be followed.
    6. Testing:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, perform tests to ensure that the merging process can proceed without errors.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional insights or solutions for this specific error message.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes related to company code and controlling area configuration, such as OBY6 (Company Code Global Data) and OKKP (Controlling Area).
