  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CL151 - Values assigned to object & characteristic & changed in time period ?

The SAP error message CL151 indicates that there is a conflict with the values assigned to a characteristic of a class in a specific time period. This typically occurs in the context of classification in SAP, where characteristics are used to define the properties of a class of objects (like materials, equipment, etc.).

    Cause:

The error message CL151 is triggered when:

    • You are trying to change the value of a characteristic for an object (like a material or equipment) that has already been assigned a value for that characteristic in a specific time period.
    • The system detects that the new value you are trying to assign overlaps with an existing value that is already defined for that characteristic within the same time frame.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Existing Values: Review the existing values assigned to the characteristic for the object in question. You can do this by navigating to the classification view of the object and checking the characteristic values.

    2. Adjust Time Periods: If the characteristic values are time-dependent, ensure that the time periods do not overlap. You may need to adjust the time periods for the existing values or the new value you are trying to assign.

    3. Delete or Change Existing Values: If the existing value is no longer needed, you can delete it or change it to a different value that does not conflict with the new value you want to assign.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for more detailed information on handling classification and characteristics.

    5. Authorization Check: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the classification data.

    6. Contact Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert for further assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like CL02 (Change Class) or CL03 (Display Class) to manage class characteristics.
    • Classification System: Familiarize yourself with the classification system in SAP, including how characteristics and values are defined and managed.
    • Time-Dependent Characteristics: Understand how time-dependent characteristics work in SAP, as they can have specific rules and behaviors that affect how values are assigned.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the CL151 error and implement a solution to resolve it.
