  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CK498 - Standard cost estimate for future period &3 already marked ?

The SAP error message CK498 indicates that a standard cost estimate for a future period has already been marked. This typically occurs in the context of cost accounting and material management when you attempt to create or change a standard cost estimate for a period that has already been marked for costing.

    Cause:

    1. Existing Marked Cost Estimate: The error arises when there is already a standard cost estimate for the specified future period that has been marked. This means that the system has already locked that period for any further changes to the cost estimate.
    2. Period Control: SAP has controls in place to prevent changes to cost estimates once they are marked, to ensure data integrity and consistency in financial reporting.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Cost Estimates: Before attempting to create or change a standard cost estimate, check if there is already a marked cost estimate for the future period in question. You can do this by navigating to the cost estimate display transaction (e.g., CK13N).
    2. Unmark the Existing Estimate: If you need to change the existing cost estimate, you may need to unmark it. This can typically be done using transaction CK24 (Unmark Cost Estimate). However, be cautious as unmarking may have implications for financial reporting and planning.
    3. Create a New Cost Estimate: If the existing cost estimate is correct and should remain, consider creating a new cost estimate for a different period or for a different version if applicable.
    4. Consult with Finance Team: If you are unsure about the implications of unmarking or changing cost estimates, consult with your finance or controlling team to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
