What causes this issue?

You have started the updating of the external model. The update starts
the masterdata download in change mode. Also you have selected the BOM
explosion function in the variant for the masterdata download.

System Response

The change mode cannot be used together with the BOM explosion. Thus,
the masterdata download cannot be executed in the change mode and will
be executed in complete mode.

How to fix this error?

If you want to execute the model update in the change mode, you need to
list all materials for downloading in the variant for the masterdata
download an take off the flag for BOM explosion.
