- Key date was copied and change number was reset ?The SAP error message C5083, which states "Key date was copied and change number was reset," typically occurs in the context of change management and configuration in SAP systems, particularly when dealing with change numbers in the context of configuration management (like in SAP PLM or SAP ECC).
Cause:
This error usually arises when:
- Change Number Issues: A change number is associated with a configuration or a document, and there is an attempt to copy or modify it without the appropriate change number being active or valid.
- Key Date Conflicts: The key date (the date on which the configuration is valid) is being copied from another object, but the system detects that the change number associated with the original object is not valid or has been reset.

Solution:

Recreate Change Number: If the change number has been reset or is invalid, you may need to create a new change number and associate it with the configuration you are working on.
Check Configuration Status: Ensure that the configuration you are trying to copy is in a status that allows copying. If it is in a "locked" or "in development" status, you may need to release it first.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific details related to your version of SAP and the context in which you are encountering this error.
