The SAP error message C2317 indicates that a user status is preventing the deletion of an inspection lot. This typically occurs when the inspection lot is in a status that does not allow for deletion, often due to certain conditions or processes that are still active.
Cause:
- User Status: The inspection lot has a user status assigned that restricts deletion. This could be due to various reasons, such as the lot being in a process that requires it to be retained (e.g., quality inspection, stock transfer).
- Document Flow: There may be related documents or processes (like goods movements, quality notifications, etc.) that are linked to the inspection lot, preventing its deletion.
- Configuration Settings: The system may be configured to prevent deletion of inspection lots under certain conditions.
Solution:
Check User Status:
- Go to the inspection lot in question and check the user status assigned to it. You can do this by navigating to the inspection lot in the Quality Management module and reviewing the status details.
- If the status is preventing deletion, you may need to change or remove the user status if it is appropriate to do so.
Review Related Documents:
- Check if there are any related documents or processes that are still active. If there are, you may need to complete or cancel those processes before you can delete the inspection lot.
Change Status:
- If you have the necessary authorizations, you can change the user status to allow for deletion. This can typically be done through the status management functionality in SAP.
Consult with Your Team:
- If you are unsure about changing the status or deleting the inspection lot, consult with your quality management team or SAP administrator to ensure that you are not disrupting any critical processes.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
