You are not using the same hierarchies on the partner characteristics
&v1& and &v2& for the purpose of elimination of internal business volume
    with a temporal hierarchy join.
    This is not permitted.
Nor is it possible to set hierarchies on one of the two characteristics
in the way that you could for elimination of internal business volume

    set on both characteristics here.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BRAIN359 - Characteristic &1 must have the same hierarchy as characteristic &2 ?

The SAP error message BRAIN359 indicates that there is a mismatch in the hierarchy levels of two characteristics in a query or report. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when you are trying to use two characteristics that are expected to share the same hierarchy but do not.

    Cause:

    1. Different Hierarchies: The two characteristics involved do not belong to the same hierarchy. For example, if you are trying to combine a characteristic like "Region" with "Country," and they are not part of the same hierarchy structure, this error will occur.
    2. Incorrect Query Design: The query might be designed in a way that expects both characteristics to be linked through a common hierarchy, but they are not.
    3. Data Model Issues: There may be issues in the underlying data model or InfoObjects that define the characteristics, leading to inconsistencies.

    Solution:

    1. Check Hierarchies: Verify that both characteristics are part of the same hierarchy. You can do this by checking the hierarchy settings in the SAP BW modeling tools.
    2. Modify Query: If the characteristics are not meant to be in the same hierarchy, consider redesigning the query to avoid combining them in a way that requires a common hierarchy.
    3. Use Compatible Characteristics: If you need to use both characteristics together, ensure that you are using compatible characteristics that share the same hierarchy.
    4. Adjust InfoObjects: If necessary, adjust the InfoObjects in the data model to ensure that they are correctly defined and linked to the appropriate hierarchies.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on how to manage hierarchies in your version of SAP BW/BI.

    Related Information:

    • SAP BW/BI Documentation: Check the official SAP documentation for more details on managing characteristics and hierarchies.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights and solutions from other users who may have encountered similar issues.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to check and manage InfoObjects and hierarchies.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the BRAIN359 error and ensure that your query or report functions as intended.
