This can happen in various scenarios, such as when working with queries, reports, or data models.

    Cause:

    1. Unsupported Characteristic: The characteristic you are trying to filter on is not supported in the context of the query or report you are executing. This could be due to the characteristic not being part of the data model or query definition.
    2. Query Design Issues: The query might be designed in such a way that certain characteristics are not allowed for selection due to the structure of the InfoProvider or the way the query is built.
    3. Aggregation Levels: The characteristic may not be compatible with the aggregation levels defined in the query.
    4. Data Source Limitations: The data source you are using may not support selections on that particular characteristic.

    Solution:

    1. Check Query Design: Review the query definition in the Query Designer. Ensure that the characteristic you are trying to filter on is included in the query and is allowed for selection.
    2. Modify the Query: If the characteristic is not part of the query, consider adding it to the query definition if it makes sense for your reporting needs.
    3. Review InfoProvider: Check the InfoProvider (e.g., InfoCube, DSO) to ensure that the characteristic is part of the data model and is correctly defined.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources to understand the limitations of the specific InfoProvider or query context you are working with.
    5. Test with Different Characteristics: If possible, try using a different characteristic that is known to be supported in the current context to see if the issue persists.
