The SAP error message BRAIN072 indicates that there is an inconsistency in the internal structure of a hierarchy in the Business Warehouse (BW) or Business Intelligence (BI) system. This error typically arises when there are issues with the hierarchy data, such as missing nodes, incorrect relationships, or corrupted data.

    Causes:

    1. Data Inconsistency: The hierarchy structure may have been altered, leading to missing or incorrectly linked nodes.
    2. Transport Issues: If the hierarchy was transported from one system to another, it might not have been transported correctly.
    3. Manual Changes: Manual changes to the hierarchy structure without proper updates to related objects can lead to inconsistencies.
    4. Data Load Errors: Errors during data loading processes can result in incomplete or corrupted hierarchy data.
    5. Versioning Issues: If multiple versions of the hierarchy exist, conflicts may arise.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Hierarchy Structure: Use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to check the hierarchy structure for inconsistencies. Look for missing nodes or incorrect relationships.
    2. Rebuild the Hierarchy: If the hierarchy is significantly corrupted, consider rebuilding it from scratch or restoring it from a backup.
    3. Transport Corrections: If the issue arose from a transport, ensure that all related objects were transported correctly. You may need to re-transport the hierarchy.
    4. Data Consistency Check: Use the consistency check tools available in SAP BW to identify and correct inconsistencies in the hierarchy.
    5. Update Hierarchy: If there are changes in the underlying data model, ensure that the hierarchy is updated accordingly.
    6. Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide patches.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1, RSCUSTV10, and RSPC for monitoring and managing BW processes.
    • SAP Notes: Regularly check for SAP Notes related to hierarchy management and error messages in BW/BI.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on hierarchy management and data modeling best practices to prevent future inconsistencies.
