  • The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    What causes this issue?

The connected SAP APO system tried to run a rules-based ATP check for an
item for material &V1&. The rules evaluation resulted in the substitute
location &V2&, which represents an MRP area in SAP ERP. Due to the
setting in the SAP ERP Customizing activity <LS>Maintain Item Categories
</> in the <LS>RBA Control </>field, the RBA must substitute the plant
(location) directly in the item. However, plant substitution in the item
is not supported for MRP areas. SAP APO therefore cancels the RBA.

    System Response

    How to fix this error?

Use a different item category for which the <LS>RBA Control </>field is
empty. If plant substitution is necessary, this setting means that SAP
APO is not allowed to substitute the plant directly in the item, but
rather it can create a subitem instead.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AG035 - Plant substitution in the item is not possible for MRP areas ?

The SAP error message AG035, which states "Plant substitution in the item is not possible for MRP areas," typically occurs in the context of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) when there is an attempt to substitute a plant for a material that is managed at the MRP area level. This error indicates that the system cannot perform the substitution due to the specific configuration or settings related to MRP areas.

    Cause:

    1. MRP Area Configuration: The material is defined with MRP areas, and the substitution logic does not support MRP areas. This means that the system is trying to substitute a plant for a material that is managed at a more granular level (MRP area) where plant-level substitution is not applicable.
    2. Material Master Settings: The material master record may have settings that restrict plant substitution, especially if the material is managed in MRP areas.
    3. Substitution Settings: The substitution settings in the material master or the related configuration may not be set up to allow for plant substitutions when MRP areas are involved.

    Solution:

    1. Check MRP Area Settings: Review the MRP area settings for the material in question. Ensure that the material is not exclusively managed at the MRP area level if you intend to use plant substitution.
    2. Adjust Material Master: If plant substitution is necessary, consider adjusting the material master settings to allow for plant-level management instead of MRP area management.
    3. Review Substitution Configuration: Check the configuration for substitution in the material master. Ensure that the substitution logic is correctly set up to handle scenarios involving MRP areas.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on managing MRP areas and plant substitutions.
    5. SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this issue or provide additional guidance on handling plant substitutions in the context of MRP areas.

    Related Information:

    • MRP Areas: MRP areas are used in SAP to manage materials at a more detailed level than just the plant. They allow for specific planning and inventory management strategies.
    • Material Master: The material master record contains all the information related to a material, including its MRP settings, which can affect how substitutions are handled.
    • Substitution Logic: Substitution logic in SAP allows for the automatic replacement of materials or plants based on predefined rules, which can be influenced by the configuration of MRP areas.

If the issue persists after checking the above points, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP functional consultant or support team for further assistance.
