  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message ACE504 - Simulation is not permitted: Start date &1 later than key date &2 ?

The SAP error message ACE504, which states "Simulation is not permitted: Start date &1 later than key date &2," typically occurs in the context of simulations in SAP, particularly in modules related to financial planning, controlling, or project management. This error indicates that the start date for the simulation you are trying to run is later than the key date that has been set in the system, which is not allowed.

    Cause:

    1. Date Configuration: The start date you are trying to use for the simulation is set to a date that is after the key date. The key date is often used as a reference point for various calculations and simulations.
    2. Business Logic: The business process or logic defined in the system may restrict simulations to only occur on or before the key date to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
    3. User Input Error: The user may have inadvertently entered an incorrect start date.

    Solution:

    1. Check Dates: Review the start date you are trying to use for the simulation and compare it with the key date. Ensure that the start date is on or before the key date.
    2. Adjust Key Date: If appropriate, consider adjusting the key date in the system to allow for the simulation to occur. This may require authorization and should be done in accordance with business rules.
    3. Correct User Input: If the start date was entered incorrectly, correct it to a valid date that meets the criteria.
    4. Consult Documentation: Review any relevant documentation or guidelines related to the simulation process in your specific SAP module to ensure compliance with the required date parameters.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Depending on the module, you may be using specific transaction codes (e.g., KP06 for cost planning, CJ20N for project management) that have their own date settings.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or updates related to this error message. SAP frequently releases notes that may provide additional context or solutions.
    • User Roles and Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to change dates or run simulations in the system.
    • Testing in a Sandbox: If possible, test the simulation in a sandbox environment to understand the impact of changing dates without affecting production data.

If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a functional consultant who specializes in the relevant module.
