- Selecting entries beyond area limits is not allowed ?The SAP error message 6G086 ("Selecting entries beyond area limits is not allowed") typically occurs when a user attempts to access or select data that exceeds the defined limits of a specific area in the SAP system. This can happen in various contexts, such as when working with internal tables, database queries, or specific transactions that have defined boundaries for data selection.
Causes:
- Data Selection Limits: The error often arises when the selection criteria specified in a query or report exceed the defined limits of the data area. For example, if you are trying to select more records than the system allows for a particular operation.
- Incorrect Parameters: The parameters or filters applied in the selection might be incorrect or too broad, leading to an attempt to access data outside the permissible range.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the SAP system that restrict the amount of data that can be processed or displayed at one time.
Solutions:
- Review Selection Criteria: Check the selection criteria you are using. Ensure that they are within the allowed limits. Narrow down the selection to fit within the defined boundaries.
- Adjust Parameters: If you are using parameters in your query or report, adjust them to ensure they do not exceed the limits set by the system.
- Check for Configuration Settings: Consult with your SAP Basis or system administrator to review any configuration settings that might be causing this limitation. They may need to adjust the settings to allow for larger data selections if necessary.
- Use Pagination: If you are working with a large dataset, consider implementing pagination or batch processing to handle the data in smaller chunks rather than trying to retrieve everything at once.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific details related to the transaction or report you are using. There may be known limitations or guidelines provided by SAP.
