  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 61318 - Component &1 cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message 61318, which states "Component &1 cannot be deleted," typically occurs when you attempt to delete a component from a structure (like a bill of materials, routing, or similar) that is still being referenced or is in use in the system. Here are the common causes, solutions, and related information for this error:

    Causes:

    1. Active References: The component you are trying to delete is still being referenced in other documents or transactions (e.g., production orders, purchase orders, etc.).
    2. Status of the Component: The component may be in a status that does not allow deletion (e.g., it might be marked as "in use" or "locked").
    3. Dependencies: There may be dependencies or relationships with other components or structures that prevent deletion.
    4. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to delete the component.

    Solutions:

    1. Check References: Use transaction codes like CS03 (Display Material BOM) or CO03 (Display Production Order) to check if the component is being used elsewhere. If it is, you will need to remove those references before deletion.
    2. Change Status: If the component is in a status that prevents deletion, you may need to change its status or unlock it, if applicable.
    3. Delete Dependencies: If there are dependent components or structures, you may need to delete or modify those first.
    4. Authorization Check: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to delete the component. If not, contact your SAP administrator to obtain the required authorizations.
    5. Use Transaction Codes: If you are working with BOMs, you can use CS02 (Change Material BOM) to attempt to delete the component after ensuring there are no references.
