Message text: BDA cannot be determined automatically due to change of scale
You have either changed the pay scale type or pay scale area in the
infotype record, or the <DS:DE.TRFKZ>grouping of employee subgroups for
collective agreement provision</> has changed for this employee
(previous grouping &V3&) as the result of an organizational change, for
example. The system therefore can no longer determine the BDA of the
employee automatically.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Compare the existing values for the pay scale type and pay scale area
that are listed below with the current values in the infotype record:
Pay scale type: &V1&
Pay scale area: &V2&
If the changes are correct, check the BDA for the employee. If required,
change the month or year of the BDA manually.

- BDA cannot be determined automatically due to change of scale ?The SAP error message 5Z509 indicates that the system cannot automatically determine the Business Data Area (BDA) due to a change in scale. This typically occurs in scenarios involving data processing where the scale of the data has changed, leading to inconsistencies or issues in data mapping.
Cause:
- Change in Scale: The most common cause of this error is a change in the scale of the data being processed. For example, if the data was originally in a different unit of measure or format and has been altered, the system may not be able to reconcile the new data with the existing BDA settings.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the SAP system that are not aligned with the current data structure or requirements.
- Data Inconsistencies: If there are inconsistencies in the data being processed, such as missing or incorrect values, this can also lead to the inability to determine the BDA.
Solution:
- Check Data Consistency: Review the data being processed to ensure that it is consistent and adheres to the expected formats and units of measure. Correct any discrepancies found.
- Review Configuration Settings: Check the configuration settings related to the Business Data Area and ensure they are correctly set up to handle the current data scale. This may involve reviewing settings in the relevant modules (e.g., Material Management, Sales and Distribution).
- Adjust Scale Settings: If the scale of the data has changed, you may need to adjust the scale settings in the system to match the new data. This could involve updating unit of measure settings or other related configurations.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling BDA-related errors. This may provide insights into best practices or additional troubleshooting steps.
