- Pay scale cannot be determined for key &1 and start date &2 ?The SAP error message 5Z511 indicates that the system is unable to determine the pay scale for a specific employee based on the provided key and start date. This error typically arises in the context of payroll processing or employee master data management.
Cause:
- Missing Pay Scale Data: The pay scale data for the specified key (e.g., employee group, employee subgroup, or pay scale type) may not be maintained in the system.
- Incorrect Key: The key used to determine the pay scale might be incorrect or not properly configured.
- Date Issues: The start date provided may not correspond to any valid pay scale data in the system.
- Organizational Structure Changes: Changes in the organizational structure or pay scale configuration may have led to the unavailability of the pay scale for the specified key and date.
- Customizations: If there are custom developments or modifications in the payroll process, they might not be correctly handling the pay scale determination.
Solution:
- Check Pay Scale Data: Verify that the pay scale data is correctly maintained in the system for the specified key and start date. This can be done by checking the relevant infotypes (e.g., Infotype 0008 - Basic Pay).
- Review Configuration: Ensure that the configuration for pay scale types, groups, and subgroups is correctly set up in the system. This can be done in the SPRO transaction under the Payroll settings.
- Validate Employee Master Data: Check the employee master data to ensure that all relevant fields are filled out correctly and that the employee is assigned to the correct pay scale type and group.
- Check Date Validity: Ensure that the start date falls within the valid range of the pay scale data. If the pay scale is time-dependent, make sure the date is valid for the pay scale being referenced.
- Consult Documentation: If there are custom developments, consult the documentation or the developer to ensure that the logic for pay scale determination is functioning as intended.
- Testing: If changes are made, test the payroll run again to see if the error persists.
