  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 5A248 - Only the organizational assignment was changed in master data ?

The SAP error message 5A248 ("Only the organizational assignment was changed in master data") typically occurs when there is an attempt to save changes to a master data record (such as a vendor, customer, or material) in SAP, but the system detects that only the organizational assignment has been modified without any other changes to the data.

    Cause:

This error usually arises in the following scenarios:

    1. Organizational Assignment Change: The user is trying to change the organizational assignment (like company code, plant, etc.) of a master data record without making any other changes to the data.
    2. Data Consistency Rules: SAP has built-in data consistency rules that prevent saving records if only organizational assignments are changed, as this could lead to inconsistencies in the data.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Make Additional Changes: Modify other fields in the master data record along with the organizational assignment. This could include changing the address, contact information, or any other relevant data.

    2. Use the Correct Transaction: Ensure that you are using the appropriate transaction code for the changes you want to make. For example, if you are changing vendor data, use the appropriate vendor transaction (like XK02 for changing vendor data).

    3. Check for Required Fields: Ensure that all required fields are filled out correctly. Sometimes, the system may require certain fields to be populated before allowing the save.

    4. Review User Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the master data. Lack of proper authorization can sometimes lead to unexpected errors.

    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for specific guidance on the master data you are working with, as there may be specific rules or requirements for that data type.

    6. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists and you are unable to resolve it, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting SAP Notes for any known issues related to this error message.
