  • Message number: 303

  • Message text: Cannot copy & to & because & already exists

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You chose <LS>automatic assignment of a customizing wage type</> and
then entered the two parameters to create names for the customizing
wage types automatically. But one of the wage type names you have just
generated already exists in table T512W.

    System Response

The entry that had an existing wage type name is not created, but all
the other new entries are displayed in the table.

    How can this happen?

    You entered the following:
    Wage type begins at <LS>1000</>
    Number of wage types <LS>4</>
    Increase per step <LS>10</>
However, wage type 1020 already exists, so the system only creates
three new entries in the table on the screen. These are:
    <LS>Original WT</> <LS>Customizing WT</>
    XXXX 1000
    XXXX 1010
    XXXX 1030

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 54303 - Cannot copy & to & because & already exists ?

The SAP error message 54303, which states "Cannot copy & to & because & already exists," typically occurs when you are trying to copy an object (like a transport request, program, or other repository objects) to a target location where an object with the same name already exists. This can happen in various contexts, such as during transport management, object creation, or modification.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Object: The target location already contains an object with the same name and type.
    2. Transport Request Conflicts: If you are trying to import a transport request that contains objects already present in the target system, this error may arise.
    3. Development Environment Issues: In a development environment, if multiple developers are working on the same object, conflicts can occur.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Objects: Before copying, check if the object you are trying to copy already exists in the target location. You can do this by searching for the object in the relevant transaction (e.g., SE80 for repository objects).

    2. Rename the Object: If possible, rename the object you are trying to copy to avoid the conflict. This can be done in the source system before the copy operation.

    3. Delete or Modify Existing Object: If the existing object is no longer needed, you can delete it or modify it to resolve the conflict. Be cautious with this approach, as it may affect other processes or users.

    4. Use Transport Organizer: If you are dealing with transport requests, use the Transport Organizer (transaction SE09 or SE10) to manage your transport requests and check for conflicts.

    5. Check Transport Logs: If the error occurs during a transport import, check the transport logs for more details on the conflict and resolve any issues indicated.

    6. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support notes related to the specific object type you are working with for additional guidance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: SE80 (Object Navigator), SE09/SE10 (Transport Organizer), SE11 (Data Dictionary), SE37 (Function Modules), etc.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
    • System Administration: Involve your SAP Basis team if the issue persists, as they may have additional tools or insights to resolve the conflict.
