  • What causes this issue?

You are working in a system that is set up as a Unicode system,
where the SAP front end uses the Unicode character set.
The graphical Screen Painter cannot support this Unicode character
    set.

    System Response

The functions provided by the graphical Screen Painter cannot be
used. The system automatically switches to the alphanumeric layout.

    How to fix this error?

You can only use the graphical Screen Painter in a Unicode system if
you set your SAP front end so that it does not automatically use the
    Unicode character set (UTF-8).
For this purose, you must log on to the system with a special
SAPLogon entry. In this entry, the property "Unicode OFF" must be
set under "Other Settings" in the "Language Settings" box.
This setting is available as of SAPLogon 6.20, Patch 33.
