  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 29667 - Item category & is within the SAP-reserved name range (A-W) ?

The SAP error message 29667 indicates that the item category you are trying to use is within the reserved name range (A-W) for item categories in SAP. This means that the item category you are attempting to create or use is not allowed because it falls within a predefined range that SAP reserves for its own use.

    Cause:

    1. Reserved Name Range: SAP has reserved certain item categories (A-W) for its internal processes and standard functionalities. If you attempt to create or use an item category that falls within this range, you will encounter this error.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The item category you are trying to use may have been incorrectly configured or defined in the system.

    Solution:

    1. Use a Different Item Category: The simplest solution is to select an item category that is outside the reserved range (i.e., any category starting with a letter outside A-W). You can check the existing item categories in your system to find an appropriate one.
    2. Check Customization: If you are trying to create a custom item category, ensure that it does not start with a letter from A to W. You may need to adjust your naming convention.
    3. Review Documentation: Consult the SAP documentation or your system administrator for guidance on valid item category names and their configurations.
    4. Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like OVAH (for item category determination) to review and manage item categories in your system.

    Related Information:

    • Item Categories: Item categories in SAP are used to define the behavior of items in sales documents, purchase orders, and other transactions. They determine how items are processed, priced, and managed.
    • SAP Customization: If you are customizing your SAP environment, ensure that you follow the naming conventions and guidelines provided by SAP to avoid conflicts with reserved names.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any updates or specific guidance related to this error message, as there may be patches or recommendations from SAP.
