  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 0M357 - Last user to change object is sole processor; system will close dialog ?

The SAP error message 0M357 indicates that the last user who changed an object is the sole processor, and as a result, the system will close the dialog. This typically occurs in scenarios where a user is trying to make changes to an object (like a transport request, a program, or a configuration) that is currently being processed by that user alone.

    Cause:

    1. Sole Processor: The user who last modified the object is the only one currently processing it. This can happen if the user is in a transaction that is locked or if the object is being edited in a way that prevents other users from accessing it.
    2. Lock Mechanism: SAP uses a locking mechanism to prevent multiple users from making changes to the same object simultaneously, which can lead to data inconsistencies.
    3. Session Management: If a user has multiple sessions open and is trying to access the same object in different sessions, it can lead to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Active Sessions: Ensure that the user does not have multiple sessions open for the same object. Close any unnecessary sessions.
    2. Wait for Release: If the object is locked by the user, wait until the user completes their transaction and releases the lock.
    3. Use Transaction SM12: You can check for locks in the system using transaction SM12. Look for any locks held by the user and, if necessary, release them (with caution, as this can lead to data inconsistencies).
    4. Contact the User: If you are not the user who has the lock, contact them to see if they can complete their work or release the lock.
    5. System Administrator: If the issue persists, it may be necessary to involve a system administrator to investigate further or to release locks if they are stuck.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SM12 (to view and manage locks), SM21 (to check system logs), and ST22 (to check for dumps).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation for understanding the locking mechanism and how it affects user sessions.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error and continue working with the object in question.
