What is scale type in SAP SD - Sales and Distribution?


SAP Term: scale type

  • Component: SD

  • Component Name: Sales and Distribution

  • Description: A key that defines whether the specified scale values represent the minimum or the maximum value for the surcharge, discount or price. Scale types are: Base Scale To-Scale In the case of the base scale, the specified scale price, discount, or surcharge applies if a particular value or quantity is reached or exceeded. For example, a discount of x amount is granted if 10 or more pieces are ordered.

    Scale type is a feature in SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) that allows you to define different pricing scales for different customers. It is used to determine the price of a product based on the quantity purchased. The scale type is defined in the pricing procedure and can be used to create different pricing scales for different customers. 
    
    How to use it: 
    To use scale type, you must first define the scale type in the pricing procedure. This can be done by selecting the “Scale Type” tab in the pricing procedure and entering the desired scale type. Once the scale type is defined, you can then assign it to a customer or customer group. This will allow you to set different prices for different customers based on their purchase quantity. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    When setting up a scale type, it is important to consider the customer’s purchasing habits. For example, if a customer typically purchases large quantities of a product, then it may be beneficial to set up a scale type that offers discounts for larger quantities. This will encourage the customer to purchase more and increase sales.
