What is backtracking in SAP SCM-ICH-TLB - Transport Load Builder?

SAP Term: backtracking

  • Component: SCM-ICH-TLB

  • Component Name: Transport Load Builder

  • Description: Method used by the TLB if products have a large rounding value. If the TLB adds such a product to a shipment, the valid area between the upper and lower parameter limits may be exceeded and the shipment may thus be invalid. Using backtracking, the TLB tries again with another product from the priority list, which the system compiles according to the days' supply of the products.

  • Key Concepts:
Backtracking is a feature of the Transport Load Builder (TLB) component of SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM). It allows users to reverse the order of transport requests in a transport load, allowing them to be loaded in a different order than they were originally created. This can be useful when dealing with complex transport scenarios, as it allows users to quickly and easily adjust the order of requests without having to manually delete and recreate them.

    How to use it:
To use backtracking, users must first select the transport requests they wish to backtrack. This can be done by selecting the requests in the TLB overview screen. Once selected, users can then click on the “Backtrack” button in the toolbar. This will open a dialog box where users can specify the new order for the selected requests. Once the new order is specified, users can click “OK” to apply the changes.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using backtracking, it is important to remember that only transport requests that are part of the same transport load can be backtracked. Additionally, it is important to note that backtracking does not affect any of the objects contained within the transport requests; only their order is changed.
