  • Description: Business partner who stores, manages, or processes stock for another business partner without any transfer of title to the goods taking place. Whereas the custodian exerts day-to-day control over the stock, the owner retains the legal title to it. The custodian of stock at any given time must not be confused with its legal owner. &EXAMPLE& Consignationment processing. A customer has received goods from a vendor as consignment stock and places it in storage. As a result, he becomes the custodian of the stock. The vendor remains the owner of the goods until such time as the customer withdraws it from consignment stores. Transfer of title takes place at the time of such withdrawal.
