What is heuristic-based planning in SAP SCM-APO-SNP - Supply Network Planning (SNP)?

SAP Term: heuristic-based planning

  • Component: SCM-APO-SNP

  • Component Name: Supply Network Planning (SNP)

  • Description: Planning that uses the SNP heuristic. The SNP heuristic plans demand over the entire supply chain network cross-location planning and creates a medium-term production and distribution plan. It does not take into account any constraints or costs, which means that the plan created will not necessarily be feasible. In a second step after the heuristic run, the planner can then adjust the plan using capacity leveling in interactive SNP planning in order to create a plan that is feasible.

  • Key Concepts:
Heuristic-based planning is a planning method used in SAP Supply Network Planning (SNP) to optimize the supply chain. It uses heuristics, which are rules of thumb or best practices, to determine the best course of action for a given situation. Heuristic-based planning can be used to plan production, inventory, and transportation.

    How to use it:
Heuristic-based planning is used in SAP Supply Network Planning (SNP) to optimize the supply chain. It uses heuristics, which are rules of thumb or best practices, to determine the best course of action for a given situation. Heuristic-based planning can be used to plan production, inventory, and transportation. The user can define the heuristics that will be used in the planning process and adjust them as needed.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using heuristic-based planning in SAP Supply Network Planning (SNP), it is important to ensure that the heuristics are up-to-date and relevant to the current situation. Additionally, it is important to monitor the results of the planning process and adjust the heuristics as needed.

    Related Information:
Heuristic-based planning is just one of many methods used in SAP Supply Network Planning (SNP). Other methods include simulation-based planning, optimization-based planning, and constraint-based planning. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages and should be chosen based on the specific needs of the organization.
