Component: SCM-APO-PPS
Component Name: Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling
Description: Function in extended order generation that is the equivalent of characteristic propagation in the SAP APO system. Characteristics are propagated in the reverse direction, that is, passed on against the production direction.
Key Concepts: Bottom-up characteristic propagation is a feature of the Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PPS) component of SAP's Supply Chain Management (SCM) Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO). It allows users to define characteristics for a product or resource at the lowest level of the planning hierarchy and have those characteristics automatically propagate up to higher levels. This helps to ensure that all levels of the planning hierarchy are consistent with each other. How to use it: To use bottom-up characteristic propagation, users must first define the characteristics they want to propagate at the lowest level of the planning hierarchy. This can be done in the Characteristics tab of the PPS component. Once the characteristics have been defined, they will automatically propagate up to higher levels when changes are made at lower levels. Tips & Tricks: When using bottom-up characteristic propagation, it is important to remember that changes made at lower levels will only propagate up if they are valid for all higher levels. For example, if a characteristic is defined at a lower level but not valid for a higher level, it will not be propagated up.
