What is scheduling horizon in SAP SCM-APO-PPS-RSP - Reservation Planning?

  • Description: Period of time in which sales orders can be checked against the available restrictions and scheduled. The scheduling horizon consists of the checking horizon and buffer days. It is calculated using the following formula: Start date = current date + production horizon in workdays End date = start date + checking horizon in calendar days + buffer days

    Scheduling horizon is a term used in SAP's Reservation Planning component of the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) Production Planning and Scheduling (PPS) module. It is the time period for which the system will consider when creating a production plan. The scheduling horizon can be set to any length of time, from a few days to several months. 
    
    How to use it: 
    The scheduling horizon can be set in the Reservation Planning component of the SCM-APO-PPS-RSP module. To do this, go to the “Planning Horizon” tab and select the desired length of time. This will determine how far into the future the system will consider when creating a production plan. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    When setting the scheduling horizon, it is important to consider how far into the future you need to plan for. If you are planning for a short-term project, then a shorter scheduling horizon may be sufficient. However, if you are planning for a long-term project, then a longer scheduling horizon may be necessary.
